Art is something that expresses the culture of an area more effectively than all other things. For that reason, one of the things that tourists enjoy doing in Reno is touring art galleries and exploring the street art that is abundant. One of the most popular is the Gateway Project, which is an interactive public sculpture display. Many of the funds that have been raised through the Gateway Project were to benefit the Pentamonium sculpture, which is a musical, interactive sculpture.

When in Reno, you are encouraged to take a stroll through the urban areas where sculptures and murals are around every corner. From there, you can venture into midtown or the downtown area where you will find a collection of locally made pieces of art. One favorite attraction is the very large, 4ft thick 70ft wide, “Believe” statue. This is followed closely by the “Space Whale” that is made of stained glass and steel. There are also several 3D wonders for you to see at the Reno Playa Art Park in the downtown area.
Why is Art in Reno So Important?
Art in Reno is a form of self-expression. It shows the history and culture of the area. It adds beauty to a city that is bustling. These public art displays can be found on the walls of office buildings and more. All total there are more than 100 murals in MidTown alone. Sculptures are hidden around every corner.

If you are not interested in art on the streets, there are art museums for you to visit and the National Automobile Museum where you can find more than 200 cars on display and painted street scenes throughout. The Discovery allows you to interact with art in a new and exciting way with their hands-on experiences. There is also the Smithsonian where you can see more of how Nevada celebrates their diversity through art in all forms, including art, film, and events. In short, there is never a shortage of ways for you to enjoy all that art has to offer, in its many forms.
Landscaping and Architecture as Art
Not only is the area of Reno decorated with statues and art year-round, but there are also buildings and other things that are a work of art. For instance, there is an apartment building that can be dated back to 1929 and the Virginia Street Bridge which opened in 1906.

There are a million things to see in Reno, NV and it goes beyond the big city lights at night. There are so many things to explore that you will never see it all in a single visit, but with any luck at all, you will discover the things that impress you enough to make you want to go back and see more of what this city has to offer.
